What are Business Expenses?
It’s now September, which is a great time to help you learn about business expenses. In this blog post, I talk about what an expense is, what an allowable expense is and what you need to do to claim expenses on your self-assessed tax return. I also explain what simplified expenses are and how to use them in your business.

AAT Comment
I’ve read a few blog posts this month from AAT Comment, a blog written by the Association of Accounting Technicians, that I thought I’d share with you.

- How to market your bookkeeping business and win new clients – an article I was interviewed for. I talk about using Instagram to interact with my audience.

Make Your Mark Online: Website Tips for Personal Brands
I’ve just started listening to this new podcast from Jammy Digital, which looks to be an excellent resource for small businesses developing their own websites. I’m hoping to put some of their tips into practice in the near future.

Microsoft Excel 2016 Guide
I use Microsoft Excel on a daily basis for spreadsheets and data analysis, but there are still times when I need some help with it, especially when the user interface changes with each new version.
I found Simon Sez IT explains how to do things in Excel in a very accessible and easy to understand format.
Embracing Sustainability
This year has seen an increase in people and businesses trying to live and work more sustainably. I’ve been making some changes at home and really like the website and podcast “A Sustainable Life with Jen Gale“. This month I have been experimenting with making my own yoghurt and trying out my first vegan recipe.
I’ve also bought myself a reusable water bottle from HydrateM8 and installed the app “Give me Tap“, which shows you where you can fill up with water for free.
The AAT has also written a recent blog post on “How to make your workplace more green“.
